Orthotics is the umbrella term for different types of equipment used to either prevent or rehabilitate injury or to improve quality of life. There are many different types of orthotics and they can be required during treatment or they may be needed after treatment is completed. At Catriona Crowley Physiotherapy Clinic, we offer various types of orthotics to patients if required.

of Orthotics we offer

Insoles

Insoles are devices that are inserted in shoes to correct an abnormal alignment of the foot. The type of insole required will depend on your specific problem and you will need to have a thorough podiatry assessment to decide what the most appropriate insole is to suit your needs.

Lower Limb Orthotics

Lower limb orthotics are specialist external devices that are be used in certain areas of the lower limb to correct an abnormal alignment. These include braces, insoles, splints or other devices. Each lower limb orthotic is specifically designed to meet the needs of the individual and will require a comprehensive assessment.

Trunk Orthotics

Trunk orthotics are designed to protect and support the trunk. They can be made from various materials, such as rigid plastic or flexible elastic, depending on the condition and need. They can be made to suit an individual needs

Off the shelf Insoles

Our off the shelf insoles provide immediately available support and can be suitable for a wide range of biomechanical issues.

Custom Made Orthotics

Custom made orthotics are often required when the off the products do not provide sufficient correction or may not prove suitable. The process involves measuring with a 3D scan, making a foam box mould of the feet or a plaster of Paris mould together with a biomechanical assessment and prescription.
The orthotic devices can be made from a wide variety of materials. Choice of material is determined following the evaluation and intended use.
